PICT

PICT: The Program for Interactive Cultural Technology is a full-semester, 16-week, immersive academic and hands-on program designed to prepare students for careers as multimedia professionals in museums, cultural organizations, and exhibition design businesses. PICT students help create a professional exhibition for an elite institution and participate in professional internships. Graduates receive a Certificate in Cultural Technology from New Mexico Highlands University and the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.

The first cohort of students produced multimedia, interactive, and hands-on components for Fashioning New Mexico, the inaugural exhibition in the 5,700 square-foot temporary exhibition gallery of the New Mexico History Museum in Santa Fe. Its grand opening was in May of 2009.

The application process will open soon for January 2011.

“I have worked in a team to produce a traveling museum exhibit. I feel like this was where I was able to put my education all into one class and see what the turnout would be. I used skills from Color Theory, Visual Concepts, Videography, Flash, and the understanding of all the applications. I learned what it’s like to be part of a team and when things get tough, we just kept fighting through it. We are a family now. ”— Le’Andrea Esquibel
